A leading manufacturing giant, spread across 30 different nations and having over 70 manufacturing units delivering intricately engineered machine components, wanted to meet stringent training targets. The purpose behind achieving such an ambitious target was to bring consistency, accomplish high safety performance and ensure localization.
The organization has a very solid manufacturing presence globally. With clear intent, they went about bridging the training gap using digital tools that would allow them to be ‘globally local’. They approached ASK-EHS with precise requirements and well-written objectives.
Having a diverse set of manufacturing units across important centers of South East Asia, they set about creating and developing digital training programs that would allow their stakeholders to take safety training programs in their native language. The idea was to build such eLearning programs that were consistent and universal across all units but at the same time, could be absorbed seamlessly across all units.
They set out underlining as many as 12 different safety training (topical) programs that were an important part of their safety training goals. These training programs (or courses) were to be made digitally available such that stakeholders were able to take them remotely. They also wanted clear and measurable outcomes through well researched assessments.
The initial roll out was to entail manufacturing units across China, S. Korea, Japan and India. The diverse set of audiences was posing huge challenges considering the cultural, linguistic and operational differences.
ASK-EHS created content that was customized to suit the industry requirements as well as the specific requirements of each of their manufacturing units. By taking relevant and suitable references, ASK-EHS collaborated with the client’s team and started preparing the training courses in right earnest.
These courses were meticulously developed using actual references of manufacturing units. This meant that we used prevalent characters, backgrounds, landscapes, machinery and layouts which would resonate across all units. Additionally, a healthy dosage of 3D animated videos were also added to the training courses to lend extra credibility and impact. With each of the courses having a judicious mix of associated hazards, control measures, incidents / near misses and preventive protocols, ASK-EHS was able to blend all the elements to come up with highly engaging course content.
Another addition was the actual use of existing SOPs, training material and documents of processes to ensure that audiences were sensitized to accurate training programs.
The icing on the cake was the localization of each of these training programs. Each of the 12 programs were available in English and were carefully converted into local languages (including Mandarin / Native Chinese, Korean, Japanese and regional Indian languages like Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam and Gujarati), to ensure none of the messaging got lost in translation. Furthermore, these translations were done at both levels – in the narration as well as the user interface.
One major challenge that client was faced with was controlling and managing the diverse set of training programs as well as getting a measurable outcome. A centrally controlled application was provided so that the managing team would be able to generate precise reports, get references and notifications, as and when needed.
Using the spoke and hub method, the central administration team was able to effectively monitor and manage the training progress of all their internal employees.

Through localization of content, the client was able to reach out to the remotest of all locations and ensure that each of their internal employees / stakeholders was provided with suitable options for training.
The client has reaped the benefits of high-end course development and programming. So much so that they are already planning to convert all of their training modules into eLearning formats. While the eLearning programs might not replace the physically exercised trainings yet, it is a definite step ahead in not just meeting their stakeholder training targets but also setting new benchmarks in safety training.
Within the first year of operations, the client was able to cover 80% stakeholders through their remote training vertical. This was a substantial increase of a whopping 50%* over previous year averages.

Moreover, audiences reciprocated to the initiative with open arms given that the training was available in the language of their choice.
To cap it off, the graphical representations and highly engaging content ensured an information retention rate of over 90%*. This was unprecedented in training annuls and accomplished simply because of rich vein of content (2D/3D animated clips, actual manufacturing unit models and characters and real-life scenarios).
